The Endocrinology Department of Liège University Hospital (Centre Hospitalier Universitaire (CHU) de Liège) is one of the main centres in Belgium to provide highly specialised services and multidisciplinary opinions, including medical care and genetic investigation, for paediatric and adult endocrine diseases. It is highly experienced in pituitary disorders, including rare conditions of pituitary origin or resulting in pituitary function disturbances. Multi-disciplinary teams include input from experts in pituitary imaging, accredited hormonal laboratories, Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) platforms for pituitary disorders and surgery (neurosurgery, endocrine surgery) and pathology. The Endocrinology Department also undertakes and participates in research based projects along with clinical daily practice and in collaboration with other HCP in Belgium, as well as with centres within Europe and worldwide. The Department has particular expertise in acromegaly and pituitary gigantism, the genetics of aggressive pituitary adenomas and the study of inherited endocrine tumour syndromes. The diseases familial isolated pituitary adenomas (FIPA) and X-linked acrogigantism (X-LAG) syndrome were discovered and characterized in international programs overseen by researchers at the Department of Endocrinology, Liège University Hospital/CHU de Liège.
