Clinical Exchange: Mater Dei Hospital Malta – Children’s Health Ireland

Sarah Craus travelled quite some distance to participate in her Clinical Exchange at CHI (Crumlin), Dublin but with good planning up front, the week was a productive one. Professor Susan O’Connell commented that the experience was a positive one that was mutually beneficial. The exchange gave “more visibility and recognition of what we do, especially as we are a small country.”

While the time was short Dr Craus was able to participate in a variety of clinical activities across conditions, “During the week I spent in CHI (Crumlin) Dublin, I had the opportunity to attend outpatient sessions daily and see patients with various endocrinological conditions including CAH and MEN. I also had the privilege of attending diabetes clinic, where patients had insulin pumps or were on MDI. On the last day, I attended the DSD meeting where various consultants and different members of the MDT could attend, present patients and formulate a plan for management, with the aim of improving patient care.”
