ERN Exchange Programme: Call Still Open

Unfortunately, due to the rising cases of COVID-19 and the Omicron variant across Europe, the ERN Exchange Programme has been put on hold until March 2022, and Ecorys (the company appointed by the EC to facilitate the visits) cannot make any travel or logistical arrangements until then.

However, we would still encourage our members to visit our website and use our online tool to register as visitors or hosts .  We can then connect hosts/visitors, establish timetables and potential travel dates, and begin paperwork so that everything can be progressed as soon as possible once the programme is recommenced.

Second student followed the Endo-ERN Clinical Exchange programme in the LUMC

  Luigi Tuccillo

Luigi Tuccillo was a exchange student visiting the the Leiden University Medical Center using personal funding, and has followed an 8-week program similar to the Endo-ERN Clinical Exchange Programme under the supervision of Endo-ERN coordinator prof.dr. A.M. Pereira Arias, and pituitary MTG leader prof.dr. N.R. Biermasz starting from October 5th until November 29th.

Luigi, a recently graduated clinician, followed his Medicine studies and associated clinical training at the University of Naples Federico II in Naples, Italy. He was motivated to visit the LUMC Pituitary Center of Excellence because of his interest in rare endocrine disease, and the multidisciplinary care path with multi-level specialized health care providers, and research contributions.

During the 8-week program, an insight into the tertiary referral center’s outpatient clinic, including the way of shared decision making, treatment, and outcome evaluation was offered. Moreover, Luigi, in collaboration with the Leiden team and the Endo-ERN Clinical Exchange Program participant Savi Shishkov, was able to start an Endo-ERN care evaluation project regarding the transition of care for patients with pituitary diseases, for which a prirmary survey has been sent to the revenant health care providers and reference centers. Additional surveys regarding your experiences with transition of care may be sent in the future with the continuation of this fruitful collaboration.
