Growth & Genetic Obesity Syndromes

Growth in children depends on a multitude of hormones, paracrine factors, extracullular matrix molecules and intracellulas proteins that regulate the activity of growth, with life long endocrine and metabolic consequences, include imprinting disorders with commun molecular mechanisms. This group of disorders needs a multidisciplinary care, networks of physicians around europe to propose commun molecular diagnosis strategies, care and clinical trials.

A reference network will allow us in an EU-wide collaboration to systematically characterize the phenotype, the genotype and treatment of these parients, including highly specialised in vitro and ex-vivo tests.

Given the small numbers of patients in most of the reference centers, network and collaboration at the EU level is essential. There is a special need to organise the care during the adult period, as these patients are usually diagnosed during childood and not followed anymore after transition to adulthood.
